The other day I was out and about running errands when i saw a bumper sticker that said “EVERYONE IS AN ARTIST!” I honestly wanted to run them and their stupid sticker off the road and lecture them about spending thousands of dollars to get an art degree, that being an artist IS NOT ABOUT MAKING PRETTY THINGS, and that there is a social role of art. Any one can paint, draw, sculpt, create, HOWEVER, artists, make art. What is art then?
Don’t look this one up in the dictionary. Art is not just “self expression” “beautiful works” ect. Art is a diolog between the artist(s) and society. It is a moment of “Hey, have you all thought about this?” Or “What do you think about this?” It’s not art because of what it is made out of, or because of who made it. It is art because of what it is ABOUT.
And I believe to do that you need training. Either studying on your own, or paying a school to train you on how to study and what to look for. An artists’ job is never done, they always need to be studying, watching and learning.
And the artist is never separate from society. Sorry critterlings, not possible.
