Finally have pushed through a membrane of personally imposed limitations on my art. There are a lot of ideas of what art “really” is, and what it is not, and some teachers in the past have told me that my art should be more loose, more “painterly”. Some people have used the term “illustrative” as a negative way to describe my work, and finally, I’m ok with all of it. I’ve tried to loosen up, I’ve tried what was suggested, and I’ve learned a lot from trying it. No regrets. However I am also facing that I love detail, I love making realistic art, and I am inspired by illustrations, especially fairytale ones. Some people will always think that my desire to do layers, render, and define details makes my artwork less appealing to them, but it is what I do. And when I do what I do, then it works out for the best.
I thought I would give you all some food for thanksgiving.

Oil paint on board, I’m pretty happy with how this turned out! I’m psyched about clouds.
Jury duty is a good opportunity to doodle while waiting to be called on for a case. Love my red moleskine!
I had a great time at the 24 hour art marathon with CoCA! It was really great, we had 21 artists there, a whole bunch of amazing volunteers, and we made art for 24 hours straight! This is me working on a painting.
